Cuban Sugar Industry Technical Team Started Its Work

Cuban sugar industry technical team which consists of eight members started its work in Ethiopia as per the agreement signed between Ethiopian Sugar Industry Group and its Cuban government-owned counterpart company – Azcuba Goupo Azukariero. Directives were given to the technical team members at the head office of Ethiopian Sugar Industry Group on Monday May 13, 2024.

The directives was given to members of the technical team comprised of professionals of agriculture, factory and research sectors at the head office of the Group by Ato Zemedkun Teklie, Deputy CEO of Corporate Affairs representing the CEO of the Group, His Excellency Ato Weyo Roba. On the occasion, “problem solving ideas which will help to do away with challenges of Ethiopian sugar industry is expected from the technical team” Ato Zemedkun disclosed. Ethiopian Sugar Industry Group will give the necessary support to the technical team while its stay in the country, he further added.

Explanation on the overall Ethiopian sugar industry situation was given to the team by Ato Samson Wolkeba, Manager of Transformation Management Department of the Group. Members of the technical team on their part confirm that, using their knowledge and experience of the sector, will work unreservedly to help Ethiopian Sugar Industry avoid the challenges it has been facing.

Operation and Project Administration Division Deputy CEO, Planning, Risk and Development Department Manager as well as Transformation Management Department Manager and other staffs were present while the directives was given to the technical team.

The technical team with high level professional members of rich experience ranging from 25 to 56 years is expected to work on four sugar factories namely Wonji Shoa, Metehara, Omo-Kuraz Number Two and Three sugar factories. The team has started its work at Wonji Shoa Factory since yesterday May 14, 2024.

It is to be recalled that MoU was signed between Ethiopian Sugar Industry Group and its Cuban counterpart company Azcuba Groupo Azukariero on January 1, 2024, following the discussion between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and President as well as Vice President of the Republic of Cuba and the direction given by the PM Office.
